This is the first post to my own personal blog. I’ve been blogging elsewhere for years, but have never felt compelled to blog about personal thoughts until now.
I’ve always said that a blog post is “an email to the world,” so I really wanted my first post to be about something personal yet significant/cool/thought-provoking/etc. The question was — what topic would fit that bill?
Luckily, the answer was staring me right in the face. This object sits before me in our family room: What is it? It’s probably the most cherished Christmas gift our family has ever received. My nephew Ryan, who is in the Navy brought this back to us from his tour in Iraq. It’s a flag he carried with him on combat operations in Baghdad.
The idea that he carried this with him while on dangerous missions of historic importance (and then entrusted us with its care) is truly humbling.
Let me amend what I wrote. It’s the second best gift. The best was Ryan’s safe return to the states…
