J. Nicholas Hoover at Information Week reports on the speculation that Microsoft is due for layoffs as soon as January 15. As someone who lives 4.6 miles from downtown Redmond, and works in downtown 98052, I can tell you that the conversations I’ve overheard while living in the belly of the beast seem to confirm this notion.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the local economy if this is true. Condos are still sprouting like mushrooms in Redmond, and the traffic in Bellevue is an absolute nightmare. Quite a contrast to my youth when I saw (now million-dollar plus) homes on Capitol Hill and Phinney Ridge abandoned and boarded up.
