Seattle Urbanites Slowly Catching On: Density Degrades Quality of Life

September 3rd, 2008 · No Comments · Crazy Urbanites

Joni Balter at the Times displays a small glimmer of recognition that the irrational desire to turn Seattle into Manhattan is degrading the quality of life there. Funny how eliminating parking spaces and building condos on every corner can leave a city feeling (as she puts it) “packed.”

She cites one reason why I now dread entering the city I lived in and loved for 11 years:

“There is no parking anywhere!!!”

That and I’m also tired of finding my car windows bashed in. That’s why Il Terazzo is no longer one of my haunts…

Does this mean there’s hope they’ll prevent a once beautiful city from turning into a crime-ridden ant farm? Don’t bet on it. Balter quickly moves on to assert that one answer to the problem of too many cars and not enough parking is (get ready…) to increase the number of homes on a given lot.

What’s in the water over there?
